The American rock band Pearl Jam while on its Latin American tour in 2015 announced that it was making a $100,000 donation for the recovery efforts of the Rio Doce River Basin after the rupture of the Fundão Dam owned by Samarco on November 5th. One third of the total amount was allocated to IBIO through The Vitalogy Foundation, and is being applied to a project that aims to restore and enhance the potential of rural farmers in the Rio Doce River Basin, namely the Piranga Watershed, by providing training in sustainable family farming. The project also attracted additional resources through partnerships with the Piranga Watershed Committee. Among these new supporters are the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Minas Gerais (Emater-MG), the Fundação Rural Mineira (Ruralminas) and municipal governments. The actions to be developed over the years of 2016 and 2017 are as follows:
